I am proud
to have been elected as the Member of Parliament for North Shore
since 1996. The electorate stretches from Devonport in the South to Mairangi Bay in the North. In November 2008 at
the election of the National Government, I was appointed as Minister of
Defence and to Minister of Research, Science and Technology.
Prior to
becoming an MP, I was the Associate Professor of Commercial Law at the University of Auckland. I completed my Bachelor of
Laws with Honours at Auckland
University in 1976. I
then studied in Canada and
gained a Master of Laws from the University
of Toronto. I concluded
my academic studies in 1988 when I completed a PhD in international law at the
University of Cambridge, England.
I have been
married to Denese Henare since 1981. We live in Bayswater. We are strong supporters
of the local community, the arts and youth projects which makes a real
difference to young New Zealanders lives every day.
The
North Shore electorate
is gifted with some of the best urban beaches in New Zealand. I am a keen sailor and
have been a member of Devonport Yacht Club for many years, occasionally taking
part in club races. I also fly and I hold a private pilot and gliding license
and am a member of the North Shore Aero club.If you’d like to email me you can click this link.
